Notes:
Lady Jane and Goin' Home are not soundboard.
Not much done to SBD tracks.
The French voiceovers are edited out.
Bonus tracks - I love the live 1967 version of Yesterday's Papers - so I created an edit
Also added available audio from Warsaw show.
At times there is piercing feedback from the amps (i.e. second half of Satisfaction) - not much I could do about that...

I can only hope we hear this on SBD/uninterrupted one day!

1969-01-13 - Jimi Hendrix - Cologne [FD Patch and Cleanup]

Here is one that I kept back, mainly because EH put out the official version (from same source tape) and I thought it redundant. That said, I still don't have the official one to compare it to, but I remember I did some work to it, speed correction among the edits, some patching from first source also. Anyway, as the official one was a hard to get hold of 2LP set, here is perhaps a "poor man's version"

01 - Intro
02 - Come On (Part One)
03 - Foxy Lady
04 - Red House
05 - Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)
06 - Fire
07 - Spanish Castle Magic
08 - Hey Joe
09 - Sunshine Of Your Love
10 - Star Spangled Banner
11 - Purple Haze

1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck [The Alternate First Rays Live] FD Cleanup and Edits

Lineage> Bob Terry Tape #13 FLAC> Adobe Audition Editing > FLAC

Sorry for the sketchy info - but this has been sitting on the hard drive for a while, and I can't remember precisely what I did - but I suspect there is some EQ et al - can't remember the source either, although I think I used the Bob Terry tape (as FLAC).

01 - Earth Blues [1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck - Edit].flac
02 - Message to Love [1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck - Edit].flac
03 - Hey Baby [1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck - Edit].flac
04 - Freedom [1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck - Edit].flac
05 - Villanova Junction / Keep On Groovin [1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck - Edit].flac
06 - Power of Soul [1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck - Edit].flac
07 - Machine Gun [1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck - Edit].flac
08 - Room Full of Mirrors[1970-05-30 Berkeley Soundcheck - Edit].flac

There ain't nothing here you ain't heard before - although what I did was edit the soundcheck tracks to make the longest and most coherent versions possible [actually, listening back after the fact, I did trim a couple too - like intro off RFOM, and a bit off intro MTL, which I did to keep the whole thing tight and provide edit points for the future live comp]...the premise was to create an "Alternate First Rays Live" - so I wasn't going to release this way - but as a live compilation embellished with other tracks to make a live First Rays comp of best 1970 performances...as I have been busy lately, and things have been quiet around here, I thought I'd upload it for your discernment...
I rearranged the order of the tracks...to create my own running order, which listening back now ain't bad - but you can please yourself on that score...

The Rolling Stones - Satanic Majesties "Reimagined"

Having previously remixed some of the Satanic Sessions tracks, I had always wanted to create a "better" TSMR. I have performed various forms of trickery to make this a good continuous listen that also brought back in many of the very interesting instrumentals that were never used...
OK - inclusion of Child of the Moon is contentious - but as they worked on this around the time of TSMR and is on Satanic Sessions, I took the liberty of including - tried to make an acoustic version using vox from studio version - but didn't sound great...so anyway...

Of course I haven't got We Love You here - did have, but I can't remember my logic at the time and I decided to leave it off. I included We Love You (Vocal Extract) in Experiments and Reconstructions...you can really hear the Fabs great backing vox esp on "you will love we too"...anyway, you can insert that in somewhere or replace Child of the Moon.

The playlist was devised as if it was (roughly) two twenty minute sides - Hence Side Two intro.
Here is the (imaginary LP) track list:

Side 1
01 Sing This All Together [Edit]
02 2000 Light Years From Home
03 In Another Land [Remix]
04 5 Part Jam [Part 1] Interlude
05 Dandelion- 5 Part Jam [Part 2]
06 Child of the Moon
07 5 Part Jam [Part 5] Interlude – Gomper [Edit]
08 Sing This All Together [Reprise]

Side 2

09 “Side 2” Intro [Untitled Instrumental]
10 On With The Show
11 5 Part Jam [Part 3] Interlude
12 2000 Man
13 Gold Painted Nails [Interlude]
14 She's A Rainbow
15 Citadel
16 Gold Painted Nails [Edit]
17 The Lantern [Remix]
18 Majesties Honky Tonk [Edit-Outro]

They had all of this at their disposal! And more!

The Rolling Stones - Experiments and Reconstructions by funkydrummer

04 - Have You Seen Your Mother Baby Standing in the Shadow ['Stereo' Remix].flac
05 - Connection [Remix].flac
06 - We Love You (Vocal Mix).flac
07 - Sing This All Together [Instrumental Edit].flac
08 - In Another Land [Remix].flac
09 - The Lantern [Remix].flac
10 - Jumpin' Jack Flash [Video Version Speed Corrected].flac
11 - Sympathy for the Devil [Organ Version Edit] .flac
12 - Gimme Shelter [Breakdown Instrumental].flac
13 - Gimme Shelter [Piano Mix].flac
14 - Sympathy for the Devil [David Frost Show Alt Backing].flac
15 - No Expectations [19690705 Hyde Park].flac
16 - Stray Cat Blues [19690705 Hyde Park].flac
17 - Honky Tonk Women [David Frost 1969].flac

Rather than serve up the same old outtakes, I have tried to compile some Frankenstein creations, new mixes, and clean as possible sounding rarities.

Some of these have been on the hard drive for years - so I collect them together for your discernment...

Most of the tracks are self-explanatory, a couple I have already put out when I put together previous comps - Got Live Remix, and Satanic Majesties Reimagined...Have You Seen Your Mother Baby Standing in the Shadow [Studio Excavated] is the version from Got Live LP but I have tried to remove as much fake applause as possible, to uncover what is surely a complete studio re-recording of the track. It sounds nothing like the Newcastle and Colston Hall tracks on that album.

1967-04-08 - Rolling Stones - Milan [2nd Show - funkydrummer cleanup]

Palalido Palazzo Dello Sport (2nd show), Milan, Italy.
[funkydrummer cleanup]

FLAC [Scandinavian Shakedown VGP365] > Adobe Audition (NR, EQ, Comp) > FLAC

01 - The Last Time
02 - Paint It Black
03 - 19th Nervous Breakdown
04 - Lady Jane
05 - Get Off Of My Cloud
06 - Yesterday's Papers
07 - Ruby Tuesday
08 - Let's Spend the Night Together

With the exception of some of the Paris show radio broadcasts, all of the European 67 tour shows are unfortunately rough. Milan is possibly the best audience source, but is recording is missing Goin Home/Satisfaction.
As with the others, I ask you to compare and contrast with the raw sources - and most of the 67 shows are probably for afficionados only.

The Rolling Stones, Hyde Park, London
July 5, 1969

[cleanup, tune-up, merge and restoration by funkydrummer]
Sources: SODD 015, VGP 296, Living Legend Records [LLRCD 032], DVD Video

01. Intro/Adonais - Removed the Sam Cutler "they're incredible bit" because it is an edit from the end.
02. I'm Yours And I'm Hers
03. Jumping Jack Flash
04. Mercy Mercy
05. Stray Cat Blues [Merge]
06. No Expectations - after 1min, new dvd soundtrack used.
07. I'm Free - Stereo Merge
08. Down Home Girl - as usual, audience tape.
09. Love In Vain
10. Loving Cup
11. Honky Tonk Women
12. Midnight Rambler
13. Satisfaction [Merge Intro]
14. Street Fighting Man
15. Sympathy For The Devil
16. Bonus - No Expectations [w/ Intro merge]

While this is hardly the first time that the still unofficially released Hyde Park show has attempted to be reconstructed from TV, radio and audience tapes, I hope that my attempt provides a different perspective, and an upgraded listening experience.I have tried to give the impression of a complete SBD - and have attempted to provide a uniformity which meant a combination of editing, merging, speed correction, I can't quite remember all of the work I did...So this is a combination of cleanup, restoration, and "tune up" - that is to say, that I have attempted to use some pitch correction at times to a show that is more often than not annoyingly out of tune. A liberty on my part, but nothing major, there is no software that can truly save Keith's guitar.

Still, part of the attempt to restore the show in the best sound quality possible.
This version is still not quite complete, missing section of "
I'm Yours And I'm Hers" for example. I had forgotten that I returned to "I'm Yours And I'm Hers" and I made a complete merge version - so I will post that also below.

As we will unfortunately never see this officially released, due in part to the looseness and tuning, I did my best for posterity.

16 - The "bonus" track, No Expectations [w/ Intro merge] was my original shot, but I thought that the merge sounded slightly out so I replaced the first verse with the SBD - the rest is DVD version.
Track 16 can be used interchangably with 06.

It just fits on a single CD too (choosing only one version No Expectations)

"Northern California Folk-Rock Festival" (AKA San Jose Pop Festival)
Family Park, Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, San Jose, California, USA

Complete Show Aud; 2nd Gen - Digitally Restored

Lineage ATM 146 > Adobe Audition (EQ, Comp, NR, Re-edit) > FLAC

01. Intro
02. Hear My Train A Comin'
03. Fire
04. Spanish Castle Magic
05. Red House
06. I Don't Live Today
07. Foxy Lady
08. Purple Haze
09. Medley - Voodoo Child (Slight Return) > Improvisation > Voodoo Child (slight return)
Room Full Of Mirrors > Message To Love > Room Full Of Mirrors > Sunshine Of Your Love > Voodoo Child Reprise

Notes: Vocals are comparatively low in the mix and as someone in the audience screams "turn the mic on" - I suspect that the mic may not have been working all that well during the actual show?

For those who may not have heard the raw tape, this is not great sound quality and I tend to pick shows that are on the poor side for "cleanups" - so don't expect SBD - check the raw source for comparison!

Jimi Hendrix - One Rainy Wish ["Solo" Version]

A remixed "solo" version of One Rainy Wish was featured for less than a minute in the recent Hendrix documentary Hear My Train a Comin'. The following is an edit that takes that snippet and combines with a revised version of the studio take to make a complete "solo" version. Have included the snippet, and two versions with and without intro.

The Beatles Unreleased Originals Mix

Nearly all of the tracks in the mix had some tweaking and/or editing, was designed to provide a journey through the originals the Beatles either never used, or never used as part of the Beatles.

I did a number of years back so I can't remember what I did to what, but I wanted to make for a flowing listening experience, which sometimes required some editing.

In the spirit of a "mixtape" here is the mix - my upload speeds are poor so compressed for now.

funkydrummer cleanup of "Swiss Made '67'"

1. The Last Time [Edit]
2. Paint It Black
3. 19th Nervous Breakdown
4. Lady Jane
5. Get Off Of My Cloud/Yesterday's Papers
6. Ruby Tuesday
7. Let's Spend The Night Together
8. Goin' Home
9. Satisfaction

OK - like the few tapes that exist of the Stones in Europe 67 - the source was pretty bad and it is impossible to perform miracles, but you can now make out what is being played...

The Swiss Made 67 source had a lot of digital skipping on the intro of The Last Time, so I edited it as best as possible to make for a listenable and consistent track.

Interesting that the Stones stop the Last Time, then start it up again...I wondered if an unruly crowd had anything to do with this? See photo...

The Beatles - All Things Must Pass [FD Composite Versions]

One of the reasons I am uploading some of my experiments to this blog, is that YouTube is pulling my stuff down left, right and centre even though the tracks you hear have never been released commercially or even in this form. So anyway, here is a track that really took me a while to do, and even though there are a couple of issues, I tried hard with this one. I even cut the vocals from another section to fly in as verse "backing vocals" and to my mind it worked. Anyway here are two versions, first is preferred, second has piano added.

09 - I Wanna Be Your Man

Coming up to 50 years since this was recorded!

This is the show with the infamous cherry bomb incident during If I Needed Someone.

Oh yeah, and don't forget that this tape was a very rough listen, so tried to just boost some areas of the audio...check out the From Beatles to Memphis to compare.

Some background to the "cleanups"

My original ambition was just to have a shot messing around with the shittiest sounding tapes and that was it – but like all these things it just expands...

I understand that not everyone likes the whole “messing with the tapes” bit, so of course I also advocate that you should hear the shows in raw form and perhaps think of some of the cleanups as complimentary to, rather than as substitute for.

Some efforts are better than others, and it takes time and a number of mistakes to further progress...
